"I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass." —Maya Angelou
Girls do have power.
How do you define the word POWER?
Girl power is a slogan that encourages and celebrates women's empowerment, independence, and confidence. The slogan's invention is credited to US punk band Bikini Kill, who published a zine called Girl Power in 1991.
How being courageous is empowering. The courage to be yourself. Building self confidence and personal power is an especially tough task, because you must make empowered decisions on how to be yourself, from a weakened perspective. It’s a classic example of trying to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.
Courage and a small leap of faith are key ingredients. Without a measure of courage you won’t venture into the unknown, and without some faith in yourself you would have no reason to exercise courage in the first place.
How to be independence and gain more confidence?
You may not think you can make a difference, but even the small actions you take on a daily basis to empower yourself (and the women around you!) can contribute to blazing a new path for girls and women around the world.
On being independent, is more than being able to provide for yourself financially, it means BEING COMFORTABLE with yourself. You have to know that you’re strong enough to face any situation on your own. When you are secure in your capabilities and don’t rely on a family member of partner to make you feel safe and stable, you’re able to increase your confidence and get to know yourself better.
Gain more confidence by taking the time to make note of your good, inner qualities. Are you a good friend? Do you provide for your family? Do you inspire others? Often what you dislike about yourself blinds you from seeing all the good you offer the world.
Become aware of unique qualities by really taking to heart the positive things that others say about you. Try writing them down so you have them to refer back to and don’t be afraid to feel a little pride in yourself! just to impress yourself. Learning to appreciate yourself is a skill and like with all skills it takes practice. So be gentle on yourself and work on feeling valuable every day.
There’s power in support and encouragement. There’s power in lifting one another up. This is especially the case for a girl and her super power.
